PT3 Essay - A visit to SPCA
During my last semester break,some of my classmates,who are Sam,Fernandez and Xue Ling suggested to go to the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) to do volunteer work after coming across the advertisement.I also decided to tag along with them as I was bored of being a couch potato in my house.Sam and others usually have a soft spot for animals and we were delighted to pay a visit to the society.The visits was aimed to lend a hand to the abandoned animals.
We set off from our house early morning and we gathered in a coffee house which is a stone's throw away from SPCA.From there,we walked to SPCA.The officials accepted us with open arms.First,we were given a brief talk and we were brought for a round at SPCA.First,we visited the cages where the animals were kept. Most of the animals in the cage were stray dogs and cats. The volunteers there explained how to take care of the animals. Then we bathed the animals with gentle care. We used a special soap to bath the animals harmlessly.
Besides that,we took up the task to clean their cages. The cages were in extremely dirty condition. There were poos high and low in the cages and they emit a foul stench. It was disgusting!However,we decided to proceed to clean the smelly cages as fast as possible. We finally finished our second task and the cages were in spick and span condition. We were beat. We took a short rest and continued our next task.
After we had finished cleaning the cages, we put back the animals into their cages and we fed them. The animals enjoyed their meals. The dogs waved their tails as a gesture of thanking. We were glad indeed to see the view of the animals consuming their meals. Then it was the time for the animals to play. The dogs were well trained as they brought back the thrown stick to us. They were very playful and we all were in seventh heaven.
At the late afternoon,visitors started arriving to pay a visit. They glimpsed at the animals to choose their choice of pet.We talked to them and helped them in choosing their pets.Finally,a lady adopted two puppies from SPCA and they got a new owner.As time flies,it was the time for us to say goodbye to the animals. It was an exhausting experience as we had been on the go the whole day but we had a whale of a time there. We hoped to do more volunteer works in future.
